Official Release Date Set for February 2027

Santa Monica Studio officially confirmed that God of War Laufey is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027. While fans will have to wait a little longer to step into the boots of Laufey, the extra development time promises an expansive journey that sets up the next phase of the entire Norse mythos.

Surprise Confirmation: A Direct Kratos Sequel Is Coming Next

In one of the biggest surprises of San Diego Comic-Con, Cory Barlog kicked off the session by confirming that a new Kratos-led God of War game is actively in development.

Rather than serving as a standalone spinoff, God of War Laufey acts as a crucial narrative bridge. Barlog emphasized that everything introduced in Faye’s story lays the direct groundwork for the events of Kratos’s next chapter.

“Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next,” Barlog explained during the panel.

Cast Insights: Who is Faye and Who Are Her Companions?

The cast shared deep insights into their characters and what players can expect from the narrative dynamic:

1. Deborah Ann Woll on Playing Faye (“Faye McClane”)

Deborah Ann Woll described Laufey as a reluctant hero, jokingly comparing her mindset to John McClane from Die Hard—someone who steps up to save the day simply because no one else can.

Christopher Judge added that Laufey was the ultimate catalyst for Kratos’s personal transformation. His ability to seek forgiveness, cling to hope, and strive to be a better person all stemmed from his bond with her.

2. Jack Quaid as “Phranque”

Jack Quaid revealed his role as Phranque, an innocent, present-focused character who interacts with Faye throughout her journey. Quaid shared that he voices a literal cube in the game, noting that Phranque brings out a softer, more protective side in Faye.

3. Perlina Lau as “Rue”

Perlina Lau spoke about her life-changing experience landing the role of Rue. After going through chemistry tests with Deborah Ann Woll, Lau described receiving the official offer from Sony as a surreal moment that required keeping a strict secret.

Expanding the God of War Universe

Santa Monica Studio is taking a deliberate approach with God of War Laufey, shifting perspective away from Kratos to flesh out the foundational lore of the realm. By exploring Faye’s past, her battles, and her early influence on the world, the developers aim to give fans a richer understanding of the legacy that drove the 2018 reboot and Ragnarök.
